The Masters Certificate course format appreciates the severe time limitations of today’s corporate employees and encourages active learning. The program generally runs in 2 day modules. In between modules you'll have ample opportunity to apply what you've learned to your real life project environment.

Module Details:

Module 1: Opening Day

Duration: 1 day

Review course deliverables, overview of expert instructors and teaching modules

  • Overview of the knowledge areas of project management as defined by the Project Management Institute and others
  • Introduction to the project simulation/case study to be used throughout the program*
  • Delivery of tools and technology to be used throughout the program
  • Discussion and exercise around team leadership and effectiveness

Module 2: Project Planning and Control

Duration: 3 days

A complete foundation in successful planning and implementation

  • How to form a project team, scope projects and manage within a Matrix Environment
  • Developing detailed and high-level PM plans
  • Creating activity-based network diagrams and working with the critical path
  • Introduction to Earned Value Management
  • Meeting stakeholder requirements with various control strategies

Module 3: Leadership, Communication & Stakeholder Management

Duration: 2 days

Outstanding communications styles to ensure project success

  • Understanding communication dynamics and your communication style
  • Team development: Understanding yourself, stakeholders and team members
  • Linking team life cycle stages with project communication needs
  • The impact of change curve stages on your project team and stakeholders
  • Building communication plans and templates
  • Communication strategies for virtual teams

Module 4: Effective Project Cost Management

Duration: 2 days

Manage your projects through the lens of cost minimization

  • Cost estimating: Micro versus Macro
  • Resource planning, budgeting and cost control
  • Earned value concepts
  • Fixed, variable and unit costs
  • Status reporting

Module 5: Project Quality Management

Duration: 2 days

Learn how to build quality measures into every project

  • Quality: Defined and measured
  • The basic process for achieving quality
  • How preventive quality action reduces project cost dramatically
  • Reducing total cost of quality through problem-solving
  • Overcoming obstacles to front-end planning and achieving results

Module 6: Assessing and Managing Project Risk

Duration: 2 days

Approaches to evaluating project uncertainties and risks

  • Project risk management framework
  • Risk management in project planning and execution
  • Quantitative and team facilitation techniques to identify risks and responses
  • Utilizing decision trees and expected monetary value
  • Applying techniques such as Delphi method and Monte Carlo simulation

Module 7: Procurement and Contracting Management

Duration: 2 days

Successfully manage key vendors and partners

  • Procurement and solicitation planning
  • Solicitation and negotiation principles
  • Source selection
  • Contract close-out and contract law

Module 8: Filling in the Gaps and Final Exam

Duration: 2 days

Review of key concepts and testing areas for the final exam and write the final exam

  • Review of complex issues in scope, time, cost, quality, human resource, communications and risk management
  • Review all areas covered in the program to date
  • The PMBOK® Guide as a complete unit
  • Final exam spanning all program material (marks to be handed out the same day)
  • Preparing for the PMP® certification examination
  • Review question styles to improve your chances of success

Module 9: Project Simulation

Duration: 2 days

In Project Simulation, all participants will apply their learning to propose, plan, execute and deliver a full-scale realistic project in teams.

Assignments

A short assignment is handed out after each module, creating about an hour of homework over the two weeks between classes. These assignments tie the whole program together and help prepare for the project simulation you will run through at the end of the program.

Simulation

Many graduates tell us that this is the best part of the whole program.  It serves to pull it all together – all of the knowledge, tools, techniques and relationships coming together to complete the program and the student’s tool kit.

Students have been working on the project simulation throughout the program and now they will execute the project – a unique, exciting and somewhat stressful experience. Just like real life.

The final hours provide the students time for a post mortem on the project and the program. Certificates are awarded at the end of this module.
